MISS SKI S.r.l. is an innovative Trentino-based start-up operating in the ski mountaineering and outdoor sports sector, with the aim of radically rethinking how we move in the mountains. The company was founded on the basis of hands-on experience in the field and the convergence of a passion for sport with technological expertise, with a view to developing a practical solution to the most common problem identified by ski mountaineering enthusiasts: climbing skins.
The patented MISS system introduces an alternative to traditional seal skins, integrated directly into the ski, which allows for uphill progression without the need to attach or remove external components. This solution reduces time, operational complexity and issues related to environmental conditions and reliability, whilst improving safety, ease of use and overall performance.
The issue identified concerns the inherent limitations of sealskins, which remain indispensable in ski mountaineering today but are prone to inefficiencies, deterioration and complex handling in cold and changeable conditions. MISS aims to overcome these limitations through an integrated technological approach, designed to be reliable, intuitive and suitable for use in alpine environments.
In just over a year, thanks to the Trentino Startup Valley programme and ongoing work involving research, experimentation and field testing, the original idea has evolved into a business, having gone through key stages such as prototype development and securing patent protection for the technology.
Our mission is to innovate this sustainable sport by making it simpler, safer and more accessible, whilst raising the standard of technical equipment. Our patented technology (Application number: 102024000020836) allows you to switch from downhill to uphill mode with a simple flick of the pole, whilst keeping the total weight of the equipment unchanged.
The MISS Ski team consists of Nicola Müller, Andrea Salvalaggio and Diego Cecchin, three professionals with complementary skills and a shared vision: to innovate and revolutionise the world of ski mountaineering.
The three founders had the opportunity to work together for around five years at the same company, an experience that enabled them to get to know one another professionally, appreciate each other’s skills and build a strong friendship over time.
A shared passion for sport, professional respect, ambition and a common vision have turned this collaboration into a joint business venture.
The team firmly believes that their diverse professional backgrounds, combined with in-depth knowledge of the world of ski mountaineering and a clear, shared vision, represent one of MISS Ski’s key strengths and form the foundation for transforming the innovative concept behind the MISS system into a successful start-up.

A mechatronics engineer with over 14 years of experience in manufacturing companies, he describes himself as a “curious technician.” Born and raised in Trentino, he developed a strong passion for outdoor sports at a young age, particularly ski mountaineering. He has in-depth knowledge of this sector, thanks in part to his role as president of a major local ski club for several years—an experience that allowed him to gain firsthand insight into the needs, habits, and challenges of skiers.
The idea behind MISS technology was conceived in 2022 during a ski mountaineering trip in the Alps. Since then, Nicola has overseen all the initial stages of the project, from the embryonic idea to the development of the first prototypes, contributing his technical expertise, enthusiasm and strong personal motivation.
He brings solid expertise in management, supply chain and operations to the start-up.
A graduate in Management Engineering, he has gained significant experience in the field of procurement, holding roles of increasing responsibility across various industrial sectors.
In recent years, he has collaborated with several Italian business schools, where he teaches courses on a variety of topics ranging from lean production to planning and inventory management.
At MISS, he is responsible for operational and administrative management, the coordination of procurement and contract manufacturing activities, and budget control, applying a lean approach focused on continuous improvement.
He is responsible for product engineering and the manufacturing process.
A graduate in Materials Engineering, he worked as a manufacturing engineer in the aerospace sector and subsequently as a designer of complex machinery and plant for various industrial companies in the Veneto region.
At MISS, he supports the technological development of the system and oversees the design of manufacturing solutions and the equipment required for future industrialisation.
Project co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), call for proposals No. 1/2023, with the aim of establishing the start-up MISS-Ski srl, completing product development and launching the product on the market.
